Productive desktop scanning and sorting: InoTec launches SCAMAX® SORTER

Meet the document scanner add-on that turns your desktop scanner into a powerful sorting station — in a single pass.

InoTec, the German-engineered document scanner brand distributed across Australia and New Zealand by InoTec Australia, has launched the SCAMAX® SORTER — a hardware add-on that brings serious sorting power to desktop document scanning. For businesses that handle high volumes of mixed paperwork, this is one of the most significant additions to the SCAMAX® range in recent years.

If your team is still manually separating documents before or after scanning, this announcement is worth a closer look.

What Is the SCAMAX® SORTER?

The SCAMAX® SORTER is a sorting attachment designed for the SCAMAX® 3×1 and SCAMAX® 6×1 desktop production scanner series. Rather than simply scanning a stack of documents and leaving the sorting to be done afterwards, the SCAMAX® SORTER lets you digitise and sort mixed document stacks into up to five output trays — all in a single pass, at full scanning speed, right at the desk.

This is a genuine step up for the desktop scanner category. Until now, this level of sorting capacity was typically only found on large, stand-alone sorting lines. InoTec has effectively brought production-line sorting logic into a compact desktop footprint.

How the Sorting Works

The SCAMAX® SORTER makes its sorting decisions based on the most common sorting events and criteria used in document scanning workflows, including:

  • Patch codes
  • Barcodes (1D and 2D)
  • Document length
  • Double sheet detection
  • Database (CSV) matching
  • Integrity detection

Depending on the scanning software in use, content-based sorting is also possible — meaning documents can be routed to different trays based on what’s actually written on the page, not just a physical marker.

Two Configurations: Dual Sorter and Quadruple Sorter

The SCAMAX® SORTER is available in two versions:

  • A dual sorter, adding two additional output trays
  • A quadruple sorter, adding four additional output trays

Combined with the standard rear output tray that every SCAMAX® desktop scanner already offers, this gives operators a total of three or five actively controlled sorting trays.

Importantly, the SCAMAX® SORTER is compatible with all models and generations of the SCAMAX® 3×1 and 6×1 series, including units already in operation. It’s installed on site by qualified service technicians, so existing InoTec customers don’t need to replace their scanners to take advantage of this upgrade.

Built for Easy Operation and Easy Cleaning

True to InoTec’s design philosophy, the SCAMAX® SORTER is operated through the scanner’s touch display and user interface. Operators can create and manage their own scanning and sorting profiles after a short briefing — no specialist IT involvement required for day-to-day use.

The unit is also tool-free to clean, with a fully accessible paper path. If a document jams, it can be cleared quickly without technician support — minimising downtime in busy scanning environments.

Who Benefits Most from the SCAMAX® SORTER?

According to Johannes Boerboom, CEO of DATAWIN GmbH (the company behind the InoTec brand), the SCAMAX® SORTER addresses a wide range of sorting needs across industries — particularly where high document volumes meet the need for fast, accurate separation.

Typical use cases include sorting out separation sheets, cover sheets, or specific document types automatically during the scan run, rather than manually before or after.

Scan service providers in particular stand to gain. Businesses processing large batches of mixed client documents can use the SCAMAX® SORTER to automatically route documents by client, document type, or processing priority — all while scanning at full speed. The same benefits apply to industries like:

  • Insurance and claims processing
  • Healthcare and patient records management
  • Government and public sector archives
  • Tax consultancy and accounting firms
  • Mailroom and incoming correspondence handling

Why This Matters for Australian Businesses

For organisations across Australia and New Zealand already relying on the SCAMAX® 3×1 or SCAMAX® 6×1, the SCAMAX® SORTER represents a practical, on-site upgrade path — not a forklift replacement of existing hardware. It’s a chance to add genuine production-style sorting capability to scanners already in daily use, reducing manual handling time and improving document workflow efficiency.

Given the strong interest this launch has already generated internationally — including significant attention on LinkedIn following its first preview at the InoTec Partner Day — demand for trial units is expected to be high.

Want to See It in Action?

InoTec Australia can arrange trials of the SCAMAX® SORTER for businesses wanting to evaluate its sorting capabilities first-hand. To find out whether the SCAMAX® SORTER is the right fit for your scanning workflow, or to arrange a demonstration with the SCAMAX® 3×1 or SCAMAX® 6×1 series, get in touch with the InoTec Australia team.
